India will launch a swadeshi generative AI model in the next 10 months

The journey of AI is going on and countries across the world are putting their strength in this field. So far America and China have been the top players in AI innovation, but India is also not going to lag behind in this race. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced that a swadeshi generative AI model will be launched in the next 10 months, which will compete with models like ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek.

Indian AI Mission is not just a technical initiative, but a strategic move that will boost digital self-reliance. For this, the government has shortlisted 10 big companies, which include big names like Reliance Jio, Tata Communications, Orient Tech and Yotta Com. Applications have also been sought from individual developers.

High-performance computing power is needed to train AI models. According to Minister Vaishnaw, 18,693 GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) are already available in government computing facilities. Along with this, a budget of β‚Ή10,000 crore has also been allocated to boost AI R&D.

Data privacy is a big concern with AI. The government has planned to ask foreign models like DeepSeek AI to set up local servers in India so that data localization can be ensured. This step will strengthen the privacy and security of Indian users.

The aim of India AI Mission is not just to grow the tech industry, but also to expand the use of AI in healthcare, education, agriculture and governance sectors. This means that AI is not just going to become a digital assistant, but a development tool.

If India’s indigenous AI model is cost-effective, powerful and multilingual, then it can make its place in the global AI market. But America and China are already ahead in AI innovation, so the competition is going to be tough.
